With the WAKPA Triennial Art Festival just around the corner, HmongTown Marketplace is hosting a Story Cloth Contest. We have partnered with Public Art Saint Paul to exhibit HOTTEA’s masterful artwork in our food court this summer. Please make sure to stop by and witness one of the many amazing pieces that is part of the WAKPA Triennial Art Festival.
What is a Hmong story cloth? A Hmong story cloth is traditionally a handmade quilt depicting the stories of their individual journeys and legends. It is a form of communication and a way to pass their history onto future generations. Story cloths typically take the shape of a square, vertical rectangle or horizontal rectangle. The borders are decorated with a triangular design. From the top left corner all the way down to the bottom right corner, the needlework threads a family’s course through happy times and hardships.
With the WAKPA Triennial Art Festival’s theme being Network of Mutuality, we would like to invite you to connect to our culture by sharing your family’s journey with us- Hmong story cloth style. Let us know for a chance to win a $200.00 VISA gift card!
